RICHARDSON, Texas –– The University of Texas at Dallas posted a league mark of 16-4 to win the American Southwest Conference East Division title and the right to host the 2011 ASC Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament at UTD Activity Center in Richardson, Texas, beginning Friday and lasting through Sunday (Feb. 25-27).

The entire eight-team, single elimination event will be available for fans through free live video streaming with audio provided by UTD and the ASC. The Conference will have a “Tournament Central” page on www.ASCsports.org where the link to video can be accessed as well as links to live stats, live local radio feeds, box scores, game recaps, photos and updated brackets.

UTD (20-5) and head coach Terry Butterfield have won two conference titles, including the last time they hosted the ASC tournament in 2009. The Comets have also appeared in eight straight tourneys after never qualifying before that. UTD, which is receiving votes in the national rankings, will put its nine-game winning streak on the line at 7:30 p.m. on Friday against West Division No. 4 seed Concordia Texas (15-10). CTX is making its fifth appearance in the event – all since 2007.

McMurry (18-7, 16-5 ASC) and first-year head coach Matt Garnett enter as the West Division victor. The two-time ASC champions, who have won eight of their last nine games, begin play in the first quarterfinal Friday at noon against East Division No. 4 seed Mississippi College (13-12). The five-time ASC champion Choctaws are the only team to have appeared in all 13 ASC tournaments.

East Texas Baptist (17-8), which has qualified for three straight ASC tourneys, enters as the East Division’s No. 2 seed and will open at 2:30 p.m. on Friday against the West’s No. 3 seed, Hardin-Simmons (16-9). HSU returns after a two-year absence.

Defending conference champion Mary Hardin-Baylor (19-6), which also raised the ASC trophy in 2008, will serve as the West’s No. 2 seed. The Cru will battle East Division No. 3 seed Texas-Tyler (12-13) at 5 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots will be at the ASC event for the fourth straight year.

The semifinals are scheduled to tip-off Saturday at 2 p.m. (McM-MC winner vs. ETBU-HSU winner) and 4:30 p.m. (UMHB-UT TYLER winner vs. UTD-CTX winner), with the championship game coming Sunday at 2 p.m.

The ASC championship tournament winner earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship.
